Broncos Tebow: Peter King Agrees

It's almost like Peter King reads TimTeblog.com. Here are some quotes from King's analysis of Tebow in Denver playing for McDaniels:
McDaniels will find something this year for Tebow to do. I don't know what it is. But last year, I don't think we saw everything McDaniels had to offer in terms of offensive play-calling. There's a lot inside him I think he's waiting to script and put in the hands of some offensive talent he mined and developed.

I wouldn't be surprised if McDaniels invented some sort of red zone or goal line package for Tebow. Could it be the kind of draw/jump-pass thing Tebow did with the Gators? Maybe. But something to get Tebow on the field a few snaps a game if he doesn't win the job, just to throw a changeup at the opposition. Now, this would be interesting for team chemistry, because whoever wins the starting job (I assume Orton) will have to swallow hard to be OK with getting yanked a couple of times a game for Tebow. But McDaniels is sure to preach the all-for-one, one-for-all team-think attitude in OTAs this spring and training camp this summer, and if the quarterbacks don't buy in, they'll move on.

  1. Wow. Compared to Peter King, Dan-and even Tim- seem downright bearish on Tim. The title of that piece is 'Two reasons Tebow might START for Broncos in 2010'. Even Tim has said his goal isn't to be the starting QB, but to earn his teammates' respect.

  2. Here are some interesting radio interviews out of Denver -

Tebow after first coming to Denver

They have already taken the kid gloves off with Tebow but very impressive how Tebow dealt with it and

Dan, I have been really curious how this whole Broncos deal came about with Tebow. I have heard conflicting stories. I think it would be cool if you could try to pice exactly how this deal worked out. I have also heard conflicting stories about "hat gate" someone claimed Tebow bought the hats himself. Coach McDaniels even said he had a text from Tebow saying he bought Broncos hats himself. But Tebow said his agent bought all the hats. I guess I find hat gate so interesting because it seems like Tebow WILLED where he went in the draft as much as he WILLED touchdowns at Florida. haha

I am also intrigued bu how the Patriots fit in this scenario. I heard one rumor that the Patiots were checking Tebow out FOR McDaniels and I have heard the Patriots wanted him too. Were the Patriots competitors for Tebow or accomplices and a safety for Tebow?

  3. @ReedRichards:
Hatgate? LOL. I think on the day of the draft, Tim said his agent brought the hats w/him.
Tim's first day in Denver & he did an interview? Oy gevalt. I wish Tim would just be low-key & not do any interviews for awhile (or at least VERY few, & only w/interviewers that have treated him well in the past, like Rinaldi). Some of his teammates are already bound to resent his star status & doing interviews won't help that. I know being accountable & accessible to the media is important to Tim, but it's the very thing that causes so many casual observers of Tim to dislike him b/c they think that he's a camera hogging attention wh*re.
I'd be surprised if the Pats weren't genuinely interested in Tim. If they weren't, & were actually helping JM get him, then I assume BB was either paying back a favor to JM or will be expecting JM to return the favor in the future.

  4. "Tim's first day in Denver & he did an interview?"

I'm not exactly sure, but I think all the rookies (well at least the first round pics) did one. Because I know DeMaryius Thomas did one too on the same day, and then they took pics with their jerseys. So maybe it's just a mandatory thing for rookies?

  5. I think Bill Belichick might have helped Tebow go to Denver because he knew they would be so good together because he wants to see a player like Tebow rewarded for doing all the right things. AND because Belichick knows Brady will be there so many more years. It would take Tebow too long to get on the field full time. The Broncos were probably willing to take Tebow earlier than the Patriots could for that reason as well.

  6. @Laura: all the 1st rounders did day-after-draft press conferences w/their new team, but Tim also did at least 2 full interviews (NFL Network was the other) on that first day. He also did press conferences at his home both before & after he was drafted. I love seeing him, but for his own sake, I wish he'd decrease the interviews during his rookie year.

@ReedRichards: I might be wrong, but Belichick doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would do draft maneuvers out of charity. I suspect that even a genius like BB couldn't pull that off, anyway. But, who knows?

Also, for anyone else who's interested: I saw a commercial on NFL Network yesterday that said they're going to be airing all of the pre-season games of every team in HD. I can't wait.

  7. I thought kind of the same way about Belichick.. but things I have heard recently made me rethink that. I truly feel that Belichick feels a responsibility to Tebow too because Belichick kind of recommended to Tebow to stay in college another year and I think Tebow's stock dropped because of it. For this reason my own personal belief is that BB felt a responsibility for Tebow and I think he would have taken him somewhere in the first round no matter what happened for that reason. Just a guess though.

I also feel Belichick has that same kind of connecetion with Josh McDaniels from what I have read too.

  8. @ReedRichards: It's ironic you mention that. I've been going through the tebowseyeblack.com archives & just stumbled upon Tim saying that he talked to BB when deciding whether or not to stay for his Sr year. I was a little surprised by that. I read in a column earlier this year that one of Tim's brothers said that BB was very interested in drafting Tim last year. So if Belichick went against his own self-interest & advised Tim to stay, that does say a lot about his integrity. As for JM, his wiki page makes it clear how important BB has been in JM becoming a head coach. And Dan refers to him as 'one of the Belichick mafia'. LOL-I love that term.

  9. Belichick also wrote out some kind of coaching bible specifically for McDaniels. When you add these 2 relationships together I can just envision Bellichcik doing anything to help that situation prosper for Tebow and McDaniels.

I also wonder if maybe Bellichick looks at it like he has had his time and he wants to pass the torch (Tebow) onto his guy (McDaniels) knowing that he himself might not be around in coaching that much longer. Just a guess though.

  10. I did not listen to the Fan (104.3) interview, but I know Alfred Williams was the one interviewing him. Alfred is a former Broncos d-lineman and has been very vocal with his displeasure over the Tebow pick and draft in general. Even before all the draft talk, he was arguing that no way was Tebow one of the best college football players ever. Anyway, just a little background.

Also, Tim did several radio interviews the day he was here in Denver. There are 4 sports radio stations, and he was intereviewed on at least 3 of them.

  11. T, what was Alfred's rationale for Tebow not being one of the greatest CFB players ever?
